Welcome

Welcome to Preservation Durham’s new website!

We hope you will like it.  And we hope you’ll let us know what you think.

Most of all, I want to thank you. If you’re on this site, you’re interested in Durham’s heritage, and in our mission of preserving Durham’s historic assets through advocacy, education and action.

Most recently, the organization has advocated for the preservation of the Liberty Warehouse, facilitated the sale of the Five Points building for redevelopment, and held a successful historic home tour in Forest Hills. More than 115 buildings and homes in Durham have been awarded the society’s plaques denoting their historic significance.

If you’re a member, thanks so much for your support as we work to carry out that mission and to be sure that thoughtful preservation continues to be a key part of making great things happen in Durham.

If you’re not – now’s a great time to join! During May –National Preservation Month — Preservation Durham volunteers will be seeking new members at the Saturday Durham Farmers Market and at other public events. The month will include exclusive members-only tours, a trivia night May 24 at Bull City Burger and Brewery and other activities.

Each week, new members will be entered into a different drawing for dinner or a gift certificate to one of Durham’s restaurants in historic buildings or districts. So for starters, join during the week of April 30 and be entered into a drawing for dinner for two at Geer Street Gardens.

Watch this website, our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter to learn about drawings for later weeks.

And check back here frequently for news of preservation in Durham and beyond. We would love to hear from you about how we’re doing, about potential preservation threats, about preservation successes, or about whatever you would like to share.
